In the Garden
The Main inspiration for this poem is of course nature but more specifically the garden at my dads house we grow many plants, cabbage, squash all sorts of things but all the time sunflowers begin sprouting in the yard around the garden and those inspired my mentions of the sun and the petals outstretched. The message I was trying to convey with this poem is that nature and the outside world are very beautiful but more so humans should learn from plants and the world around us

This poem was also inspired by double standards and bad examples that are set in our society that we sometimes don’t even realize. This poem is meant to bring attention to the kids and teens in our society and how they are effected by what they see and hear. My favorite line is “Teach them that their body is not shameful, or something to be passed around,” because this applies to kids at first but ultimately ends up affecting teen girls the most and those teen girls grow into

My grandma had dementia and I thought it would be a good poem to write about. I was trying to give the story of how dementia and Alzheimers is and how hard it is to deal with. I used imagery in this poem, it also has a big emotional pull to it. It shows in the writing how emotional and deep it is.

My Heart
The title of my piece is ‘My Heart’ and I was inspired by just thinking about some words. It was around valentine’s day when I wrote this, so I found the subject appropriate. The message is about how to love someone like myself, and i’m proud of the rhyming and rhythm I was able to create. It’s very simile heavy, which helps carry the message that it’s easy to treat someone gently, because it’s just like how you’d treat many other things.

Abusive parents
: The anger I have for parents that treat their kids like shit. Why do kids get emotionally abused by someone and have no control over it? The line of getting their dreams crushed was my favorite line even though people don’t know what I mean? I just like how it was a formal poem because I can be straight up and be open minded with my thoughts about my pet peeves about parents.

Abecedarian for him<3
My fiance inspired this poem because we are getting married in September, and I’ve been thinking of vows and I figured this poem would be a great opportunity to get some ideas for that. The obvious message I was trying to convey was love in general, but I wanted to make it really specific because I feel a lot of love poems are all gooey, and I wanted a more raw one. I’m really proud of the line “God has placed a Kettlestitch to bind our Lives” because I think it shows how muc

Cafe terrace at night
The inspiration for this poem came from the 1888 Vincent Van Gogh painting “Cafe Terrace at Night.” At first glance you see couples sitting at a cafe at night, but if you look deeper you can see shadowy figures in the background. I wanted to emphasize these people in the back because im sure Van Gogh painted them with intention, and he was a lonely man during his life who struggled with mental health. I used an alternating rhyme scheme and metaphors to give the poem a natural

I wanted to write something positive because I read a lot of Atticus poetry. The message I wanted to spread was a positive outlook. I'm most proud of how I wrote two poems that went along with each other well with contrast. I think that can be difficult. The poems include juxtaposition and enjambment, which make the flow of the poems cool and highlight the positivity.

An Ode to Mac
I was inspired to write An Ode to Macaroni and Cheese by my deep, intrinsic love for the cheesy goodness of the dish the ode is to. It was my intent to convey the pure perfection of mac’n’cheese, and also add some comedy to the lives of those who need it. I’m particularly proud of the moral, which is one that I live by, as well as my usage of juxtaposition in said moral. The enjambment was alright, but not my best.

Unspoken Object
What inspired this poem was my room and how my life looked through the eyes of all of the objects inside. The message I was trying to convey is basically growing up, I have a wall of images throughout my life on it and each one is another step in my life but also my families. A line I’m most proud of is “A photo of a small baby was hung in the middle, but to the left was that little girl now, a full head of hair and now her own thoughts and opinions stringing in her eyes.” It
