The Chaos and The Calm

Chaos a force that floats freely going
Wherever like a raging river that sweeps
Away villages or a tornado of wrathful winds.
But the calm keeps the chaos in check
Like a still lake so perfectly peaceful the
Reflection bounces beautifully off the top.
Both come together to balance each other out
If it’s too calm life loses excitement and gets boring
If it’s too chaotic there's no refreshing rest and harm
Like yin and yang together a daring dance
One step wild the next slow and sure
All a part of life's flawless flow
What inspired this poem was the prompt being two sides so I thought of things that are opposite as they can be seen as two very different sides and with that I could make comparisons to things like yin and yang and use juxtaposition so I chose chaos and calm both are present in life and can be seen through the world. The idea and message I was trying to convey in this poem is that though people may have different opinions on the subject of calm and chaos or have preferences a balance is needed in the world and that the two forces are there for a good reason and that we can't exactly control it as it moves freely through the world. The lines/details I’m happy about are how I separated the calm and the chaos into their separate stanzas and then brought them together in the last stanza to talk about balance I think it also helps convey the message well I think my use of the lines in the stanzas are good having 3 lines in the first two and then coming together for a combined 6 in stanza 3. The poetic device that is most prominent is alliteration as it is very prominent in multiple parts of the poem and I used it to emphasize movement as most of the alliteration is somewhat movement based such as “dance” “flow” and “bounce” which helped the message of it being a moving force that continues and can't be stopped another poetic device that enhanced my poem is juxtaposition as it really emphasized the difference of the two sides really well.
