My mom’s soup
Is my favorite comfort.
My heart is warm
And my stomach is satisfied,
With her soup that is homemade.
My grandma also makes a homemade
Dish, that you could call a soup.
We call it wild rice hotdish, my family is satisfied
Because of the pure comfort
That it brings with it’s delicious
Flavors that keep the soul warm.
When the summer is warm,
My family always makes homemade
Sun tea, and it’s so delicious.
In the fall, my mom makes potato soup
And this year she taught me how. It will bring my comfort
When I’m away from home. I will remember home and be satisfied.
My heart is satisfied
When the woodstove is keeping us warm,
Along with my favorite blanket to comfort
Me. These times my mom makes homemade
Chili, which is technically a soup,
It’s so wonderful and delicious.
Another one of my families delicious
Meals is made with beef, which satisfied
my need for soup.
It is beef stew, which is also warm,
And made using bacon that is homemade.
It is a traditional German dish that is made to comfort.
Cooking itself is a great comfort
To me. When I make delicious
Meals, I feel a sense of accomplishment, I am personally satisfied
With my work. The act of cooking, alone, is like a warm
Woodstove in my soul. Though, I dont much prefer cooking soup.
My greatest comfort that keeps me satisfied
Is the delicious feeling of warm
Meals that are homemade, like soup.
This poem was inspired by my mom and her love for cooking. I grew up watching cooking shows and helping her cook all the time, so this was a poem that I got to reminisce on a lot while writing. I was trying to convey a light hearted feeling as well as a home feeling. I really like the last line “meals that are homemade, like soup” I think it just came out really funny. As far as lines that I am the most proud of, I really like when I talked about my Grandma’s cooking and how beef stew is a traditional German dish. I think adding a little heritage into writing is good and I think adding my grandma into it made the homestyle feel even stronger. I used imagery, simile, and personification. I really love the way I was able to personify the feeling of comfort, I think it makes it feel like I am sitting in certain scenes of my poem. Simile and imagery fell into this poem by accident because I was talking about food and other things that remind me of home, and I compared a lot of feelings to actual objects.
