Capturing your loved ones

Iris Hicks

Black and White Charcoal, Watercolor

Title: Capturing your loved ones, black and white charcoal, watercolor. This piece is supposed to emulate what it feels like to experience nostalgia or think of childhood memories. All of the background memories are connected through photography, taken from the same camera that my grandpa, myself, and my nephew have all used. I drew our figures in black charcoal. Three generations using the same camera creates a parallelism between different time/place contexts. The background is done with watercolor, and the sketchy memories are made with whimsical white charcoal. The sketches are supposed to appear somewhat "incomplete" just as memories are when they reappear, they're like ghosts.
